Fear a Career Change? Here’s what you can do about it

It’s been said before, but bears repeating: Fear, in all its forms, is the single biggest factor standing between where you are and reaching your dreams.

At Key Corporate Services, we have been in the business of helping people make career changes for fourteen years.  If a candidate coming to us already has a job, there may be an element of fear associated with the idea of making a move to a new company.

An article by Job-Hunt.org detailed several reasons for the fear. We list some here along with our “fix” for each:

1.   FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN

You know you need a change, but at this point, you have no clue what you’re going to do.

Fix: Remember that you control your thinking. If you work in any of the nine industries we recruit for, call us.  We’ll brainstorm with you regarding options as we see them.

2.   FEAR YOU WON’T LIKE WHERE YOU’RE HEADED

You might not like where you’ve been, and even if you do, we grow very fond of our job situation simply because we at least know what we’re dealing with.

Fix: Explore new career options with one of our specialists, who may have ideas you haven’t even considered.

3.   FEAR OF RETOOLING YOURSELF

You’re making the assumption that to make a change, you may need to go back to school. Who wants to do that!

Fix: If you’re not equipped for school anymore, that’s fine. Most of our placements don’t have to.

4.   FEAR OF NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO NEXT

You don’t really even know the first step you’d take to figure out what to do next. Do you go apply for jobs that sound good?

Fix: First, step away from the resume. Changing careers by doing a job search usually results in massive disappointment. Instead, we suggest you review some of our job postings.  Then call us.

At Key Corporate Services, we help to take the fear out of a career change. Our specialists will identify behaviors you possess that are a great match to a new career.

We will partner with you each step of the way.
