Previous posts in this series have touched on the importance of moving quickly in hiring a great candidate. The message here is simple, the BEST candidates are snatched up quickly. This is particularly true if it’s an industry that is highly competitive. Everyone is looking for the brightest candidate as they ramp up their workforce.
Knowing this, hiring managers are increasingly looking for ways to speed up the hiring process. One way is to bypass the staid, traditional rule of not hiring a candidate unless they have submitted an “updated resume”.
For example, suppose you are the hiring manager and an executive search firm brings you a candidate that is a fantastic fit. The feedback from the search firm and the initial conversation with the candidate confirms this person excels at all levels. You express interest in the candidate, but tell them you have a policy that they simply can’t be considered until they submit a resume. The candidate is currently employed and tells you he will have to get his resume updated before he can send one. Realize that this policy may result in the candidate being hired by another competitor.
A better course of action would be to not wait for the “resume update” at all. Instead, accept LinkedIn profiles for referrals and at least the initial application for regular job openings.
At Key Corporate Services, our specialists are focused on bringing the top candidates to the attention of the companies we represent. We know the value of moving quickly to fill those key positions.
